German AfD MP investigated for anti-Muslim tweet on New Year’s Eve

Cologne, Germany: The deputy leader of Germany’s far-right AfD Party, Beatrix von Storch, has come under Cologne police investigation after posting an anti-Muslim tweet on New Year’s Eve.

For referring Muslims as “barbaric, gang-raping Muslim hordes of men”, when officers tweeted a new year greeting in Arabic, she could face charges of “incitement to hatred”, reports BBC.

Storch after her Twitter account was suspended by the company for 12 hours, re-posted the same message on Facebook. However, she was also blocked by Facebook.

The incident comes only a month after Germany made a new law and will now enforce fines up to £44m on social media sites if they fail to remove “obviously illegal” posts.

After regaining access to her account, she wrote: “Facebook has now also censored me. This is the end of the constitutional state.”

Defending her remarks, Storch’s party said the removal of her comments was a form of censorship.
