The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) on Wednesday sealed a mosque in Sheetla Colony in Haryana’s Gurugram area.
GURUGRAM: A video of an elderly Muslim expressing his disgust after the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) sealed the mosque in Haryana’s Gurugram has gone viral on social media platforms.
In less than one minute video, the 69-year-old Mohammad Akhtar is seen shouting in desperation, “Tell me which law allows you to seal our mosque without any notice. We’ve been offering namaz here for the last six months here. Can anyone tell us if we created any public nuisance here? All senior officers including the Commissioner assured us. Our sisters and daughters offer namaz at homes. Seal them too and declare that there’s no place for Muslims (in India), they can’t live here, and they can’t die here.”
Tension gripped after the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) on Wednesday sealed a three-storey mosque in Sheetla Colony in the area.
“A temple, a church and all houses in this locality are illegal as they fall under the 300-meter radius of the ammunition depot. There are hundreds of such illegal structures. Why single out a mosque for sealing? The administration has acted under pressure from the Hindu outfits,” one Haji Aleen Khan was quoted by The Hindu, who sits outside the sealed mosque as a mark of protest.
A tweet by MCG said, “11 Illegal structures within 300 meters of the Ammunition depot have been sealed today. Despite repeated directions from the Administration constructions were identified ongoing at few sites.”
