Kairana (Uttar Prasesh): Amidst of the daily chaos over the Muslim identity, another controversy has been tried to invoke on Daily News and Analysis (DNA) by Sudhir Chaudhary, who is known as ‘Supari Anchor’ over the traditional attire “Burqa” of Muslim community. Chaudhary claimed that recently, many women have been seen wearing the traditional “Talibani Shuttlecock Burqa” in Kairana of Western Uttar Pradesh, which clearly indicates the town, is gradually turning towards the “Talibanization”.

He also slammed the Muslim community for their fundamentalist attitude which is inspired by the Wahabism migrated from the middle-eastern countries, as well acclaimed that the Muslims are trying to propagate an “ideology of Taliban”.  However, it is a direct violation of Indian Penal Code Section (IPC) 295/A which defines that; Whoever, with deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the religious feelings of any class of 273 [citizens of India], 274 [by words, either spoken or written, or by signs or by visible representations or otherwise], insults or attempts to insult the religion or the religious beliefs of that class, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to 4[three years], or with fine, or with both.

Basically, the traditional shuttlecock burqa is not something new in Western Uttar Pradesh, but it has always been a choice for thousands of Muslim women prior to the introduction of Modern Hijab. Still, the traditional shuttlecock burqa is prevalent and preferred among the old & middle ages, and can be easily seen wearing such form of Hijab.

Even in the video by DNA, Rashid Khan former Chairmen of Kairana claimed that; “such type of Burqa is merely preferred by the old as well the Middle age women, while the young women prefer to wear the new modern type of Hijab.” Further, Khan said that; “it all depends upon the fashion trend, once the women were preferred to cover their faces, now earlier replaced by the modern Hijab. So it doesn’t make sense that the Shuttlecock Burqa is associated with Taliban.”

Another native Ghayyur Ali said, “Shuttlecock Burqa is our simple and traditional attire since decades, while the black is modern one”.

While talking to the MuslimMirror.com, Arshi Khan (Home Maker) hailed from the western Uttar Pradesh said “The Shuttlecock Burqa is a traditional attire of Muslim women in Uttar Pradesh, even I have seen my mother, my aunts to wear such clothing. And in the local language, we used to call it “Topi Wala Burqa” which is available in various colours including white, cream, tint and blue.”

Congress supporter and social activist Syed Jawwad  also condemned  Sudhir Chaudhary in strongest word for communalising the already volatile environment of western Utter Pradesh.

Connecting Shuttlecock Burqa with Taliban is a criminal act , Choudhri must be booked and arrested ,said Razi.

Shuttlecock Burqait is prevalent among Muslims o f western Uttar Pradesh since decades.

Yesterday, the Kairana town, Shamli District of western Uttar Pradesh, done with the Lok Sabha by-poll election and allegedly faced the malfunctioning of the (Electronic Voting Machine) EVM.

However, this is not the first time when Kairana is being targeted by some particular media houses, but earlier too the Muslims of the town was allegedly blamed for their ‘anti-Hindu’ stance which was latter proved baseless by different Fact Finding Teams and factual data.

It should be noted that Sudhir Chaudhary is facing charges of forgery and attempting to extort money from Jindal’s company JSPL in exchange for not filing news reports linking his firm to the coal block allocation in 2012.
