Srinagar: All airports in the northern states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir were made operational by afternoon after a brief shutdown amid tension between India and Pakistan
Earlier, airports of Amritsar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Jammu, Srinagar and Leh have been shut down till May after an IAF jet crashed in Budgam district amid an escalation of shelling between the armies of India and Pakistan.
An official of the Airport Authority of India while speaking to PTI had earlier stated that “The civilian air traffic has been suspended temporarily due to “technical reasons” in view of the emergency.”
The area has been on high alert amid warnings of retaliation after India’s fighter jets crossed the Line of Control and destroyed a vast terror camp within Pakistan in a pre-dawn strike on Tuesday. In retaliation, Pakistan violated ceasefire in a number of places along the LoC. Heavy shelling was also reported in the region.
Earlier today Pakistan has claimed it had shot down two jets of the Indian Air Force as there have been reports that Pakistani fighter jets violated Indian air space in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch and Rajouri sectors. The IAF has denied the claim, saying all pilots are accounted for.
